The hoodoos (pillars of rock left by erosion) of Bryce Canyon. I believe this is Bryce Ampitheater seen from Bryce Point.
In Bryce up to 7500 stars are visible to the naked eye at night, in most rural settings the number of starts visible is 2500. Unfortunately the sky was mostly overcast while we were there.
John at Bryce Point lookout. One of the best places to view the Earth's penumbra, the Earth's own shadow projected onto the upper atmosphere. It is seen as a band of purple on the eastern horizon at sunset and is visible for only a brief moment.
Hoodoo close-up. The word "hoodoo" is derived from the word, "voodoo".
