Grand Canyon National Park
(North Rim), Arizona
Our first view of the grand canyon. I was stunned by the size. In fact it was so big I felt I couldn't get a grasp on the place. I had the sensation of looking at a very large movie screen. Maybe all the haze in the air from polution is to blame. Biggest thang I ever did see. Too big ;-)
The facts: the Grand Canyon is 6,000 feet deep. The Colorado River below is at 2,800 feet. Where I am standing is roughly 10,000 feet in elevation, which would later get to me. The rock layers at the bottom date to about 1,800 million years old.
John's feet and mind, soaring through the canyon. I believe it was 10 miles as the crow flies to the South Rim visitor center.
The Grand Canyon is home to about 45 California Condor. Guess how many we saw? 0
Due to full campgrounds, we spent the night at the resort called Jacob Lake. The morning view from our cabin was of these condor, oh all right, they're turkey vultures.
